How to create a quiz that marks itself

This guide shows you how to make an online quiz in Ansel Forms, mark the right answers, set a pass mark and reward people with a certificate.

By Joel, Director at Anselerate. Last reviewed 21 October 2026.

Step 1: Start a new quiz

Sign in to the Ansel Forms console with your email code. Choose to make a new quiz and name it, like Science test week 3. You can also start from a quiz template.

Step 2: Add questions and mark the right answers

Add single choice, multiple choice or dropdown questions. For each question, tick the option that is correct. Ansel Forms uses these ticks to work out the quiz score.

Add a full name or email field at the start, so you know who took the quiz.

Tip: Write wrong options that look possible. It makes the quiz a fair test.

Step 3: Choose what people see at the end

Open Quiz results in the settings. You can turn on:

  • Show the score on the thank you page.
  • Show right and wrong answers on the thank you page.

Then set the pass mark in percent, like 60.

Step 4: Turn on certificates

On Pro, turn on Give a certificate. Everyone who reaches the pass mark gets a certificate with their name that they can save.

Step 5: Share and check the results

Save the quiz and share the link, the embed code or a QR code. On Pro you can also send the quiz to a contact group by email.

In analytics you see the average score, the pass rate and how many people got each question right. This shows which topics need more practice.
